Asinara Since 1998 Asinara Island from jail of maximum safety has become National Park. It is the 2° Island of Sardinia for extension and it is covered by a thick vegetation and Mediterranean stain while it is being it deprives of trees. The island takes the name from the characteristic white donky that live there in wild state, as all the other animals of the island (wild boars, horses, cows, muflons).
Rocks of granite and crystalline sea serve as frame to the island. Characteristic of the coast of the Asinara is the abundant presence of oceanic posidonia, an indicative sea plant for the biological equilibrium, guaranteeing therefore the quality of the water and the backdrop.
The island becomes famous in the warm years of Italy of the “Brigate Rosse” and the accused of the 41 encore.
On the island some structures of maximum safety and others of agrarian character are built for the prisoners with smaller crimes.
